Low-Cost Interference Emulator

A low-cost traffic emulator has been created to verify that no expensive RF equipment, like a vector signal generator, is necessary to emulate ISM band interference.

This device acts as a noise source with a digitally-controlled output power level. The onboard logic contains an Arduino microcontroller, which makes it possible to modulate the envelope with attenuatros and subsequently emulate interference in the Linux based WLAN test system. In the downloads, one can find a detailed documentation about the design process, user guidelines, Arduino based firmware versions, and a Matlab class to controll the source over USB. In order to give the user a brief introduction to this framework, example codes are provided.

Key facts:

  • Max. output power -2.67dBm @20MHz bandwidth in WLAN channel 1
  • Overall gain of ~100dB
  • Dynamic range 63.5dB
  • High switching speed, settling time < 400ns
  • Glith free transitions between attenuation states
